America’s Fastest-Growing TV Brand Raises Funds for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

CORONA, Calif., September 6, 2018 TCL®, one of the world’s largest and America’s fastest-growing television brand, announced today that TCL North America is supporting the Emilio Nares Foundation (ENF), an organization that helps underserved families navigate their child’s journey with cancer, through its TCL Cares initiative. In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, TCL is donating 1% of revenue from all TVs purchased through Amazon to ENF for the entire month of September (code: TCLCARES).

“ENF is doing great things and I’m fortunate to lead a group of TCL employees who have come together and rallied around this worthy cause in such a huge, impactful way. We are pleased to partner with Amazon.com to help these families in need through our TV sales. Buying a set now will not only bring joy into your living room but will also help a young cancer patient’s family,” said Chris Larson, Senior Vice President, TCL. “It seems everyone has been touched by the ravages of Cancer but when children are afflicted, I know I’m not alone in thinking that this is truly the worst-case scenario. The toll this unforgiving disease takes on these kids and their families is unthinkable, but TCL knows what we can accomplish as a team and we are going to apply the same energy that created America’s Fastest-Growing Television Brand into raising funds to help them.”

In the weeks leading up to Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, TCL North America, along with their business partners and personal contacts, raised nearly $30,000 in cash. In addition, many in-kind donations were collected for a silent auction at the end of September to help ENF deliver on their mission of helping families dealing with childhood Cancer.

“We are honored to receive such overwhelming support from the TCL organization,” said Richard Nares, Founder of ENF. “Creating ENF in 2003 with my wife Diane to honor our son Emilio who lost his brave battle with cancer at age five has certainly been a labor of love. But, it’s been an incredibly rewarding journey to see so many people come forward to help us raise money for programs that aid a child’s best chance of recovery as they fight the disease. While we are currently serving Southern California, our goal is to expand our efforts into other California hospitals and eventually offer these services nationally.”

The primary mission of ENF is to provide transportation for underserved families, ensuring that they can get to treatments and back home safely as a child with a compromised immune system takes tremendous risks using the public transportation options typically available to their families. “Ride With Emilio” has earned national recognition from President Barack Obama and was included in the 2011 U.S. Surgeon General’s National Call to Action on Cancer Prevention and Survivorship report. Since then, ENF services have grown to include Emilio’s Nutritional Snack Bags, Family Resource Centers, Creating for Hope: therapeutic knitting and sewing programs, as well as End of Life Child and Family Care.

Richard Nares was elected by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as one of only 10 national Community Health Leaders in 2012, chosen as a Top 10 CNN Hero in 2013, and honored by Mass General Cancer Center in Boston for his innovative work and philanthropy against cancer in 2015. Recently, he ran 1,700 miles from Seattle, Washington to San Diego, California over the course of 12 weeks to raise $250,000 for, and awareness of, childhood cancer and ENF. Along the way, Richard stopped at Children’s Hospitals and each stop included a presentation of Emilio’s Loving Tabs Shirts – patented shirts with an innovative design featuring an open-close shoulder panel to allow medical professionals to easily administer chemotherapy into a child’s permanent cath-a-port without requiring children to lift or remove their clothes. ENF has a goal to provide these shirts to every children’s hospital across the country.

Since 2014, the leaders at TCL North America committed to creating a high-performing culture that allows the company to have a successful business they can feel good about. TCL Cares is the “guiding hand,” a simple set of rules that all decisions are filtered through:

#TCLcares for our users.  It is our responsibility to add joy and simplification to their lives by innovating and advancing technology.

#TCLcares for our employees.  It is our commitment to provide an environment that embraces diversity, excellence, learning, and laughter.

#TCLcares for the communities we serve.  We are all one and we are committed to find ways to give back and make a positive impact.

About ENF (Emilio’s Story)
When Emilio was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), his parents Richard and Diane felt their world turned upside down cycling through emotions including fear, promise, desperation, and hope. Despite a relapse, intensive chemotherapy, marrow registry search, and a transplant, the Nares family say they felt lucky. They had family, friends, even strangers reaching out to help them. However, while living at the hospital, it became clear not everyone has the same kind of support.

After Emilio passed away just before his sixth birthday, he passed the torch on to his parents.

Richard and Diane honored his memory by creating the Emilio Nares Foundation (ENF) to help low-income underserved families meet basic needs, especially transportation. Emilio’s spirit can be felt in the hundreds of young patients ENF helps annually — laughter in the van, a comforting hand during hard times at the hospital, and the smiling eyes of our families. He looks after us all.
